Path and Effect-Specific Indicator Substances for Water & Soil Systems

Working Party Path and Effect-Specific Indicator Substances for Water & Soil Systems

The Working Party is concerned with the characteristics of indicator substances that can be regarded as typical in terms of their ecologically relevant properties:

  • Input and occurrence

  • Elimination, propagation and transformation behaviour

  • Effect on biological systems

The selected indicator substances should characterise the behaviour of trace substances (emerging contaminants) in water and soil systems. The characteristics collected provide a basis for the formulation of criteria for ecological risk assessment and the pertinent tools, and for the discussion of prevention and reduction strategies.
