Chemical Reaction Technology

Section

Chemical Reaction Engineering is the hub of the know-how and competitiveness of the process industries from raw materials production to chemistry and petrochemistry through to the food and pharma branches which in turn supply all the production and processing areas of industry.

For a region that has few natural resources, it is paramount for Europe, and particularly Germany, to maintain its competitive edge in terms of know-how. Chemical reaction engineering is expected to give a considerable impulse towards achieving a sustainable economic structure by resource- and energy-efficient production and by providing products that facilitate sustainable production in other areas. The Chemical Reaction Engineering Section brings together and coordinates working groups involved in a wide variety of activities, from reaction engineering in the narrow sense to substance-, processing- and application-oriented disciplines. It offers a means of public or confidential discussion of scientific and technical developments in topic-centred forums.
The Section supports research promotion in the framework of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft industrieller Forschungsvereinigungen (AiF - German Federation of Industrial Cooperative Research Associations) and the Max-Buchner Forschungsstiftung (MBFSt - Max Buchner Research Foundation) and promotes the integration of young scientists. It assesses current developments, identifies research needs and pinpoints strengths, weaknesses and need for action in position papers.
The interdisciplinary activities of the Section are represented by, for example:
  • The ProcessNet annual meeting, conferences, colloquia, symposia, workshops and workshop discussions, etc.
  • Publications and news for members
  • Internet portals: the Section's bodies maintain Internet catalogues on research centres and industrial players (catalysis, membrane technology) and public discussion forums (http://zeolith-forum.dechema.de)
  • Multidisciplinary networking on a national and international level
The Section is currently composed of some 2000 professionals from the scientific community, industry and the public authorities.
