Subject Division Nanotechnology and Working Group "Responsible Production and Use of Nanomaterials"

Working Party
Chemical Nanotechnology

The Working Party pursues and discusses cutting-edge R&D from the field of nanotechnology. The interaction and overlap with adjacent fields is a focal topic of the Working Party's activities. To this end, renowned representatives of these disciplines are invited to Working Party sessions to report on their work.
Key activities are the organization of events for the specialist public, advising political bodies and the promotion of nanotechnology and research. Accordingly, the Working Party fosters particularly close relations with the Nanotechnology and the Particle Technology Subject Divisions.

Subject Division
Nanotechnology

The Nanotechnology Subject Division is engaged in boosting cooperation between science and technology in the fields of application, characterization and production of nanoscale structures in terms of chemical, biological and complex material systems. It also aims to promote young scientists, improve the image of nanotechnology and inform interested colleagues about relevant political research guidelines and studies. Focal activities include the organization of events, cooperations, collaboration in the area of national and international R&D as well as the coordination and dissemination of pertinent information in a suitable form.

Working Group Responsible Production and Use of Nanomaterials
(with VCI)

The Working Group is jointly supported by DECHEMA und VCI. Its aim is to identify both the advantages and the potential risks of chemical nanotechnology and to promote its commercial and technologically successful implementation by initiating appropriate measures with consideration given to ethical, ecological, social and economic aspects.
The Working Group focuses on nanoparticulate systems and nanotubes both in the free form and integrated in matrices. The discussion targets the use of nanotechnological products for the consumer, completed research on risk assessment of nanotechnology, and areas that still have to be clarified. The results of this internal communication will then be made available to the scientific community.
