The 21st International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization is being held from 30th August to 2nd September 2021 now as online event.
Crystallization occurs in many natural physical, biological, and chemical systems, and is exploited in numerous applications, ranging from novel environmental and purification technologies to the production of bulk and fine chemicals, as agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food ingredients and pigments. Active research is done on a broad range of subjects from fundamentals to industrial applications resulting in new findings, innovative processes and products.
Crystallization is a core process in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
The ISIC (International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization) meetings, taking place every three years, provide a broad overview of the current science and technology of crystallization. This is where scientists and engineers of various disciplines, both academic and industrial, from all over the world meet, discuss their research and exchange ideas.
The conference will cover the following main topics:
• Fundamentals of crystallization
• Crystallization and precipitation in fine chemical, specialty & life-science industries
• Developments in large scale industrial crystallization
• Contributions of crystallization to sustainability
• Integrated process design: Crystallization in the industrial process chain
The 21st ISIC 2021 provides a meeting and a discussion forum for scientists and engineers from academia and industry as well as suppliers of crystallization and related analytical equipment.
We are looking forward to meet you at the 21st ISIC conference in the year 2021.

Dates to know:
- 12 February 2021: Extended Deadline for Paper Submission
- March/April 2021: Confirmation of Authors / Set-up of the programme
- 15 June 2021: Deadline for ealry registration and registration for active authors
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our life and actions, we have come to the decision to hold the 21st International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization (from August 30th to September 2nd, 2021) as an Online Event.
This appears to be the most rationale decision, though it is indeed painful. We feel that by deciding so early we will be able to organize a high quality and rewarding event nevertheless.
When preparing the detailed schedule of ISIC 21, we will do our best to consider the time lags between the whereabouts of our participants so as to enable an enjoyable and successful meeting with the colleagues from our crystallization community:
- We will have an attractive program, with possibilities for personal exchange.
- Lectures will be given live.
- Posters will be presented as e-poster and break-out rooms will be reserved for discussion.
- Virtual rooms will be provided for additional networking.
On the positive side, the decision to hold an Online Event could attract a larger and broader audience, and might help particularly the younger researchers to attend.
We are very much looking forward to meeting you at this year's event – in a rather extraordinary style.
With kind regards
Heike Lorenz on behalf of the Organizing Committee
Topics for the 21st ISIC, postponed to 30th August 2021
You are cordially invited to contribute to the scientific programme. The conference will cover all aspects of crystallization with a focus on the following main topics:
• Fundamentals of crystallization
• Crystallization and precipitation in fine chemical, specialty & life-science industries
• Developments in large scale industrial crystallization
• Contributions of crystallization to sustainability
• Integrated process design: Crystallization in the industrial process chain
Please note: Extended Deadline for submission of papers: 12 February 2021.
Please submit your paper in form of a 2-4 pages abstract as pdf-file. The abstract should clearly state the motivation of the work, main results obtained and the advance achieved. Figures or tables (1-2) embedded in the abstract and illustrating the results are welcome. The congress language is English. If desired, after acception of the abstract, it will be possible to submit an updated version of the abstract incorporating recent results.
The selection of the contributions will be based on the review of the abstracts by the Committee.
Please note: Registration fee cannot be waived for authors.
