Basic System of Primary and Higher Education in Germany

In Germany there are a variety of schools for primary education promoting the different inclinations and abilities of children. In Germany primary education is to age 9, secondary education to age 18. Almost all schools are governmental institutions. There is no attendance fee. Regarding universities there is an discussion about installing an attendance fee.

Also in higher education there exists different tracks: The dual System of professional education represents a close link between theory and practical work. This education is jointly provided by governmental schools (theory) and smaller or larger private companies (practical education).

Academic education is provided by universities (with a more scientific approach) and by universities of applied
science (with a more applied approach). Most universities are governmental institutions. The introduction of an attendance fee is under discussion.
